In 2011, Washington approved HB 1237, which creates the opportunity for males under the age of 26 to register with the SSS while applying for an instruction permit, driver’s license, or identification card. Applicants under the age of 18 can choose to be automatically registered upon their 18th birthday.  If the individual chooses to decline registration with the SSS, the state may not deny on those grounds the license, permit, or identification card, and may not create a record that indicates the applicant refused to register or disclose the information to any other government agency.
