The 2001 HB 635 states that any male between 18 and 26 must be registered with the SSS in order to protect state residents from penalties that could be inflicted on those who do not. All applicants for a driver’s license, permit, or identification card who are required to register either affirm that they are registered, or consent to having their information sent to the SSS to be registered. Any male under the age of 18 will have his information retained and forwarded to SSS upon turning 18. (Florida Statutes Title XXIII 322.0515). After 1988 no unregistered male could be hired by the Florida state government and promotion was barred to all current employees who failed to comply. (Florida Statutes Title X 110.1128). In 1985 Florida implemented a law requiring registration as a precondition of receiving student financial aid from the state of Florida, but it was repealed in 1997.
