Driver’s License Linked to Registration? Yes, must be registered to receive license.

Registration Linked to Access to Higher Education? Yes, must be registered to enroll in a state funded institution of higher education.

Registration Required for State Employment? Yes, must be registered for state employment or promotion.

Any male applicant for a driver’s license or commercial driver’s license between the ages of 18 and 26 must be registered with the Selective Service.  “The applicant’s signature on the application shall serve as an indication that the applicant either has already registered with the Selective Service System or that he is authorizing the department to forward to the Selective Service System (SSS) the necessary information for registration.” (Code of Alabama 32-6-4-49.9) This amendment to the Code came from Bill SB75 (Act 2001-500, p.877).  The department must inform applicants that their signature constitutes consent to registration.  Those required to register must be registered with the SSS to obtain employment with the state, promotion,  and enrollment in state institutions of higher education.
